Pretzel Hip Stretch

PRETZEL STRETCH

This is a fantastic stretch for your glute muscles, your piriformis muscle and the muscles at the side of your hip. It can be done easily at your desk or on any chair throughout the day. You’ll feel like you’re turning your legs into a pretzel, but it’s a goodie!

Step 1:
Find a sturdy chair and sit up nice and tall.

Step 2:
Take your right foot up and rest the right ankle onto your left knee. If this is a strong enough stretch, just hold it here.

Step 3:
To increase the stretch, push down on your right knee. You can also lean your torso slightly forwards to increase the stretch even more.

Step 4:
Repeat on the left side.

Some tips:
Don’t “bounce” these stretches, take them nice and slow. Hold for 30 seconds on each stretch before swapping to the other leg. And remember to breathe deeply!
