EASY NECK STRETCHES
My all time favourite neck stretches are these ones!
I love to do these stretches regularly throughout the day, especially if I’ve been sitting still for a while. They take less than 3 minutes in total to complete all the different positions.
1ST POSITION:
-Sit on your right hand, or if you can’t sit, hold onto the edge of a chair or bench with your right hand. (This helps to anchor your shoulder down)
-Gently take your head across to the left
-Place your left hand onto the right side of your head and apply GENTLE pressure.
-You should feel this stretch down the right side of your neck.
-Hold it for a good 30 seconds, breathing deeply.
Now move on into the second position.
2ND POSITION:
-With your head still to one side, now look down towards your underarm on the left side.
-You should feel the stretch move slightly more into the back of your neck.
-Keep GENTLE pressure with the left hand on your head.
-Hold for 30 seconds and breathe.
Now swap sides and repeat!
3RD POSITION:
-Take your hands together on the back of your head.
-Drop your chin to your chest.
-Bring your elbows together.
-Let the GENTLE weight of your hands on the back of your head take your into a nice stretch.
-You should feel this down the back of your neck and even possibly between your shoulder blades.
-Hold for 30 seconds and breath deeply.
Some tips:
Don’t “bounce” these stretches, take them nice and slow. And just be careful not to apply too much pressure with your hands! And remember to breathe deeply.
As always, check with me or a suitable health professional for advice if you’re not sure about which stretches are best for you personally.
