Bursitis can happen anywhere in your body that a bursa resides but the shoulder is definitely one of the most common problem areas!
Essentially, bursitis is an inflamed and swollen bursa. If you imagine a water balloon that is now full of extra fluid and stretched, you can start to get the picture!
But a bursa doesn’t usually swell without a reason – it’s usually the tip of the iceberg and there’s something through the shoulder joint that is irritating it. To really get on top of shoulder bursitis, treatment needs to address the reason your bursa has been swelling to provide long lasting relief
Symptoms of shoulder bursitis include:
* Discomfort when lying on your shoulder at night
* Pain on the outside or top of your shoulder, that can get worse when you raise your arm to the side
* Discomfort with pushing, pulling to circular arm movements
* Pain that radiates through your shoulder
As a Soft Tissue OT, I have a lot of experience treating shoulder bursitis, helping to reduce pain, reduce inflammation, improve range of motion – and get your shoulder back to doing all the things you want it to do!
