Post fracture and post surgical care

This little man (who is in fact my own little man) is fresh out of double arm casts for recently broken arms.

But often when a cast is removed, whether in kids or adults, there’s a lot of joint stiffness, muscle tightening and inability to move the joints. This can cause a lot of pain and have secondary complications. If there’s been surgery to the fracture site, this can be even worse. Once adequate healing has occurred, the area needs to be assessed to see if it’s safe to begin treating.

Having a limb immobilised in a heavy cast can also overload the surrounding joints, muscles and nerves, such as in the neck and shoulders in this case.

Gentle soft tissue OT treatment can help to restore range of motion, improve healing to the area, restore correct biomechanics and get the area back to functioning properly again.

This little man went from having bent arms like a T-Rex to now having comfortable, free-moving arms so he can get back to playing and doing all the things kids love to be doing!

If you or someone you know is about to come out of a cast or splint, feel free to get in touch.

PM if you’d like to chat about anything before booking in an OT session, otherwise you can book online directly here or you can get in touch with me here.
